Wilmington has a genuinely good independent coffee scene. The historic downtown alone has five locally owned shops within a few blocks of each other, and the neighborhoods just beyond, Castle Street, the Cargo District, the Soda Pop District, each have their own distinct coffee culture. Every shop on this list is locally owned, verified open, and worth your time.

What To Know Before You Go

Most of the downtown shops cluster along Front Street and Princess Street and are walkable from the Riverwalk in under 10 minutes. If you are making a dedicated coffee crawl, Front Street to Princess Street covers 24 South, Drift, Bespoke, Maroon Monkey, and Java Dog in a single walk.

Luna Caffe and The Ibis require a short drive or a longer walk from the downtown core but are worth the trip as standalone destinations. Blue Cup Roastery in the Cargo District is a 10 minute drive from downtown and pairs well with a visit to the art and design shops in the same complex.

Folks Cafe has the most limited hours, Tuesday through Saturday mornings only, so plan ahead if that one is on your list.
